Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, third baseman Placido Polanco, catchers Carlos Ruiz and Brian Schneider will be held out of an exhibition game Wednesday afternoon with Florida State. those who are in the starting lineup will probably only see limited time as well, including Jimmy Rollins in his familiar lead off spot and outfielders Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence.
John Mayberry will assume first base duties in the absence of Ryan Howard, with Jim Thome on the bench. Domonic Brown will get a chance to start in left field, where many feel would be a better position for him (go get it Brown), and Juan Pierre, thought to be a favorite for an Opening Day roster spot with Howard destined to start 2012 on the disabled list, will bat second and be the designated hitter for the exhibition.
With Polanco out of action Wednesday, Ty Wigginton will man third base. Michael Martinez will start at second base.
So, your first lineup of the spring is as follows;
- SS Jimmy Rollins
- DH Juan Pierre
- CF Shane Victorino
- RF Hunter Pence
- 3B Ty Wigginton
- LF Domonic Brown
- 1B John Mayberry
- 2B Michael Martinez
- C Tuffy Gosewisch
Minor league prospect Austin Hyatt will get the start on the mound for Philadelphia. Other pitchers expected to pitch will be Jake Diekman, Jeremy Horst, Michael Schwimmer, Joe Savery, J.C. Ramirez, B.J. Rosenberg and Phillippe Aumont.
