Check Out Glen Perkins’ Sweet New Goalie Mask

I’m not sure who started the trend of awarding themselves (or a teammate) a WWE-style championship belt after a job well done…but I think it was four-time NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace.

Over the years, the tradition has gotten so mainstream, that the sports entertainment giants have even gotten involved.

In 2013, following their Cy Young Aaward winning seasons, both Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw donned the strap. And you’ll also remember that same off season, David Ortiz trotting around Boston with John Cena’s World Championship belt.

As much as I’m a mark for professional wrestling…I’m thinking I might like this new tradition better.

On May 16, Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins secured a 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, notching his 100th career save. Saturday, his bullpen success was rewarded.

And, like the save or not…what his mates gave Perkins, a Minnesota native and, thankfully, a hockey fan, was pretty awesome.

Oh…in case you needed a better look. There’s this from the helmet’s designer, Todd Miska.
