The Discover Orange Bowl is running a pretty cool social media competition in the lead up to the game on January 3. This weekend, there is a little social media battle predicting who will play in the big game. The Orange Bowl website has a tracker where you can submit photos for a gallery, tweet for your pick and get people involved on Facebook. Say you think Alabama is going to play. You would tweet "I think #UCF will play in the #DiscoverOrangeBowl." There is also a way to do it on the site. The hashtags work on Facebook as well.
So far Clemson leads the way at 55%, followed by Alabama at 34%.
Once the matchup becomes official on Sunday night, the site turns team specific. For example if it's Alabama against Clemson, those fans have a hashtag battle. Things aren't held just to social media though. Photos have a chance at being posted on the video board in the stadium. The tweets could make the ESPN pre-game broadcast.
Here is a full rundown of things.
Cheer on your Champs
The experience will exist in two phases:
PHASE 1: Cheer on your Champs: Discover transformed how nationwide college football fans interact via social media, by not only aggregating all Discover Orange Bowl related social conversation in one central place, but also allowing fans to add their two cents at the same time.
Through an interactive social media dashboard at http://www.discoverorangebowl.com/, fans can monitor just how socially active their fan base is through a real-time conversation meter that builds based on volume of messages fans send with team specific hashtags/keywords or #DiscoverOrangeBowl. The conversation before December 9th focuses on who fans think will earn a berth in the Discover Orange Bowl Friday, January 3, 2014. After the teams are selected, the conversation will shift to focus on the fan bases of the teams who earned a berth in the Discover Orange Bowl.
How it works: From now through December 9, fans have the option to share their fan-centric photos via Instagram, tweet for their team or recruit their friends via Facebook—all in the name of cheering for their favorite college football team online. But don’t think there won’t be competition; fans can also monitor the ongoing fan conversation on the dashboard which tracks team related hashtags and keywords, including #DiscoverOrangeBowl.
How to participate: Fans are encouraged to visit http://www.discoverorangebowl.com/ to view how their “socially supportive” their own fan base is and encourage their fellow fans to contribute an Instagram photo, tweet or ‘like’ to show support for their favorite college football team.
