Chicago Tribune Looks to Change Cubs Victory Song

Since 1984, Steve Goodman’s “Go, Cubs, Go” has officially been the unofficial theme song of the Chicago Cubs.

Feeling that a song in which the main hook is “the Cubs are going to win today” was more of a pre-game song versus a victory anthem, the folks at the Chicago Tribune came up with a novel concept…have a contest to find a new song to be sung at Wrigley Field after a win.

When it was all said and done, the winner was, appropriately enough, “Cubs Win” by Jumpsuit.  The Chicago-based punk/rock-step trio has been together since 1997 and, suffice it to say, they’re pretty excited about being selected.

“Overall we’ve had a positive response to the song. One of the judges, Billy Dec, said (our song was) ‘easy, happy, whimsical, full of everlasting hope, love and positivity’. That’s what we put into the song and most people are getting that out of it,” the band told The Hall. “On Facebook and YouTube and in person the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, but you can’t please everyone so I guess the people we didn’t please are all on Twitter.”

Now, I don’t know a lot about music, but good Lord is “Cubs Win” a catchy little tune and, frankly, a lot more fun that standing in line for more than thirty minutes to use the bathroom.

Your move, Cubs…let’s make party!
