If there's a bigger name on the Badger football roster in 2013 than Chris Borland, on the defensive side of the ball at the very least, then either you haven't been paying attention or you're just fooling yourself. Today we're just 44 days away from the start of the Gary Andersen era at UW and that means we here at MTB celebrate No. 44 on your roster sheets and that's one Chris Borland!
Borland's Story So Far:
– He's been named to five 2013 preseason award watch lists (Lott, Bednarik, Butkus, Lombardi, and Nagurski) this offseason
– Borland has been a 1st team All-Big Ten pick each of the past two seasons
– He already holds the all-time UW forced fumble record (13) and is one away from tying the Big Ten record
– Borland had 104 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and 6 passes defensed in 2013.
– Borland ranks 19th in career tackles, 7th in career tackles for loss, and 13th in career sacks entering 2013 and has a legit chance at top 10 finishes in each category when it's all said and done.
History of No. 44 at Wisconsin:
Donnell Thompson (LB, 1996-99): Finished his career ranked 10th all-time with 347 tackles. Thompson was a team captain for both the 1998 and 1999 Big Ten championship teams. He went undrafted in the NFL, but played three seasons starting with the Pittsburgh Steelers and ending with the Indianapolis Colts.
Chris Pressley (FB, 2005-2008): Pressley was the old-school fullback Wisconsin didn't have for a while before him and haven't really had after him. He was a two time Academic All-Big Ten pick (2007, 2008) and received the Big Ten's sportsmanship award in 2008. Pressley went on to be drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals and has stuck with them to this day
