Chris Davis Shows Drugs Are Still An Issue In Baseball

Last season, people wanted to truly believe what they were seeing. Chris Davis, a guy who was an average player at best in his professional career up to the beginning of the 2013 season, slugged 53 home runs for the Baltimore Orioles.

He was in the running for the American League MVP, and he was a leading vote-getter in the All-Star game.

His down season has frustrated people in fantasy baseball, but now his season will come to a halt with a 25-game suspension.

The Baltimore Orioles are perhaps the biggest surprise in all of baseball this year. They are running away with the American League East divisional crown, and they will have a shot at a World Series later on in October.

This latest blow will definitely throw a wrench into everything. Davis has not been able to perform well in fantasy baseball this year, but it still puts a cloud of controversy around the team. It also takes a power bat out of the lineup at end inopportune time.

There were certainly some skeptics when Davis had a breakout performance last year, but he was very adamant that he was doing nothing wrong. Some people feel like testing positive for a stimulant instead of a steroid makes a difference.

However, he is still going to miss a very important part of the season due to taking a banned substance. Not only is he hurting the integrity of baseball in general, but he is also hurting a franchise looking for their first World Series championship in a generation.

Players in every sport are going to be looking for an edge wherever they can get it. All the answers are not out there yet as far as why Davis decided to take a stimulant that was banned, and why he was allowed at one point in his career to legally take them.

That said, this is another black eye for the game of baseball.

Until they can really start to get away from all the drug controversy, they are never going to really have the full trust from the average Major Legaue fan.
