After watching Chris Jent running up and down the court during Saturday’s draft prospect workout, it was only a matter of time before he was officially named to the Sacramento Kings coaching staff.
Now the wait is over.
“Adding Chris to our coaching staff provides the team with a coach who will remain loyal to the mission of returning this franchise to prominence,” Kings head coach Michael Malone said in the team’s official press release. “He’s experienced at the professional and collegiate levels, is extremely well-prepared, and has made a significant contribution in every stop along his coaching career.”
The 43-year-old Jent spent the last two seasons as an assistant with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Before returning to his alma mater, Jent spent eight seasons as either an assistant coach or director of player development at the NBA level, including stops in Philadelphia, Orlando and Cleveland. He was also a member of the Houston Rockets’ 1994 championship team.
Malone told media members on Saturday that he intends to add four assistant coaches and a couple of player development coaches to his staff. With the addition of Jent and the hiring of Brendan Malone a mere formality, Malone has just two spots remaining on his bench.
Former NBA big man Roy Rogers was also in attendance of Saturday’s workout, but no official announcement has been made on his status. Rogers spent last season on Lawrence Frank’s Detroit Pistons staff working with big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.
