The Arizona Cardinals fell one game short of Super Bowl 50, losing to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship Game. If they had made the Super Bowl, there was a chance that running back Chris Johnson could have played. Johnson’s bounce back season was one of the surprise stories in the NFL as many people wondered if he had anything left in the tank.
Johnson proved in 2015 that he can still a solid running back as he rushed for 814 yards in 11 games (started in nine) to go along with three touchdowns. Johnson, who was on pace for 1,000 rushing yards, had his season cut short as he suffered a knee injury. In an interview on Tuesday night on Sirius XM NFL radio, Johnson made it known that he wants to re-sign with the Cardinals.
“I feel like at this point in my career I am not really chasing the money,” Johnson said. “I can’t say I ever really chased the money, but when you’re a young guy in this league, you want to take care of your family and get the highest deal possible. I still want to get the best deal, but at the same time, I want to be somewhere where we have a chance to win. I feel like Arizona is the best place for me right now.”
At 30-years-old, Arizona is the best place for Johnson as he helped their offense establish a three-headed monster at running back, lessening the pressure on quarterback Carson Palmer, who was also coming back from an injury. If Johnson does stay in Arizona, he would be competing for the starting job with David Johnson, who had a fantastic rookie season with 13 total touchdowns.
