Cincinnati RB Hosey Williams Not Suspended After Disorderly Conduct

UPDATE: Tommy Tuberville has no plans to sit Hosey Williams in Saturday’s contest with Miami (Oh.).

Cincinnati starting running back Hosey Williams will not be suspended by coach Tommy Tuberville after being cited for disorderly conduct while intoxicated early Sunday morning, reports Tom Groeschen of Cincinnati.com.

This comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering police were responding to a weekend party where gunshots were fired—three other Bearcats were involved, albeit none detained for gunplay.

Freshman cornerback Alex Thomas has been suspended four games for running away from the scene when officers told him to stop, but linebackers Leviticus Payne and Ey’Shawn McClain (both with minor drug crimes), along with Williams, will remain on the active roster.

“We have high expectations for the conduct and behavior of every member of our football program at all times,” said Tuberville in a statement released Wednesday night. “Being a student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati is a privilege, not a right, and there are consequences for their actions. I’m disappointed and we are still gathering information surrounding the depth of involvement in the incident.”

Williams, who refused to tell the police where he attended school, rushed for 103 yards off 14 carries (7.4 ypc) in Cincinnati’s 58-34 win against Toledo during last Friday night’s season opener at Paul Brown Stadium.

Although he hasn’t officially suspended him, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tuberville significantly limited the senior tailback’s snap count in the Battle for the Victory Bell against Miami (Oh.) this Saturday night.

Keeping Williams off the field the entire game is a likely possibility, considering Cincinnati is a 28-point favorite over the RedHawks and backup Tion Green (a former three-star recruit that had 412 yards and seven touchdowns with UC last season) is fully capable of filling in as the full-time ball carrier.

Still, this isn’t the kind of news Bearcats fans want to hear just two days before a rivalry game that is followed by Ohio State week.
