Cincinnati Recruiting: YouTube Playing a Part

The Cincinnati Bearcats have put together some pretty nifty 2014 highlight clips on YouTube for each of the major position groups. Given the online lifestyle of the generation of players the program is trying to recruit and sign, it clearly makes sense.

If you want to check them all out, you can find them on the UC Bearcat Football YouTube channel.

The quarterback highlight video stood out most to me, for a variety of reasons: 1) Gunner Kiel had a fantastic season, and Munchie Legaux played well when he was forced to fill-in, 2) the video features both of them, almost in a way that is trying to tell quarterbacks “come to Cincinnati and you will see the field,” and 3) it reminded me how bare the cupboards are behind Kiel at the position.

Legaux was a luxury to have this season, and anyone who didn’t realize that can go look at what happened in the Military Bowl when Kiel was forced out due to injury. While Kiel is a supreme talent at quarterback, and I mean that on a national level not just within the AAC, a small narrative was built that he is a bit injury prone. With Legaux gone and Jarred Evans’ future with the team still up in the air, the Bearcats are highly inexperienced and without quality depth behind Kiel heading into 2015.

UC better hope this video reaches its true intended audience because Kiel only has a max of two years left in the program, and as is the case with any player, he is always one play away from being knocked out of a game.
