The American Athletics Conference will boast the defending national champion this season, but unfortunately that team is not the Cincinnati Bearcats. It is the Connecticut Huskies, a team that held a remarkable run through the NCAA Tournament this past season, disposing of several top teams, including Villanova, Michigan State, Florida, and Kentucky.
The Bearcats and Huskies met three times last year with the first meeting at Cincinnati. The then-7th ranked Bearcats won a tight one, 63-58, snapping UConn’s three game winning streak. They met again a month later on March 1st and Connecticut prevailed in another low-scoring battle, 51-45. Then, the two teams duked it out in the conference tournament semifinals with UConn narrowly winning 58-56. The teams’ combined scores for the three games were UConn 167, Cincinnati 164, demonstrating how Cincinnati was just about equals to the eventual national champion.
The two will meet twice again this year, with a third matchup in the conference tournament another potential rubber match. Below is a breakdown of ticket prices for the two games with data provided by Easy Seat.
January 10, 2015 @ UConn Huskies | XL Center | Average Ticket Price = $328 | Get-in Ticket Price = $36
Cincinnati vs. UConn mens basketball tickets are quite expensive for their first meeting of the season in Hartford, CT. The average ticket price is a whopping $328, almost four times higher than the meeting in Cincy. This will be the third conference game of the year for Connecticut and just the second for Cincinnati.
January 29, 2015 vs. UConn Huskies | Fifth Third Arena | Average Ticket Price = $85 | Get-in Ticket Price = $42
The two will meet again at Cincinnati a little less than three weeks after their first tip-off. Though the average price is significantly less than the first meeting, the get-in rate (cheapest available ticket) is actually six dollars more at $42. If these two teams are both ranked at this time of the year, you can expect prices to rise a bit for this Thursday evening game.
