Claiborne Drops Fight with Gonzalez

In speaking with light heavyweight Kentrell Claiborne it’s hard not to root for the Louisiana born, Fort Worth based slugger.  To put it simply, the dude is mad cool and has survived a hard knock life that would have put most of us in the grave.  But, you may be more familiar with Claiborne for his ring exploits.  The dude cracks like a mule and has the distinct honor of being 2010 North Texas Fisticuffs Upset of the Year honoree in boxing for his upset of Greg Hatley Jr.

This past Friday, Claiborne ventured to Miami to take his talents to South Beach.  Standing opposite his corner was Cuban prospect Yuniesky Gonzalez.  Sure, it was a given that the evening’s promoters brought in Claiborne to sever as a sacrificial lamb, but what they didn’t count on was his heart of a lion.  Still, despite this undeniable fact couldn’t overturn the fact that on that night it was Gonzalez who would prove victorious.

Let’s not front on the fact that Claiborne gave a good showing of himself to close out the end of the first round.  Unfortunately, the second round proved to be a completely different story as Claiborne became a complacent in his attack allowing Gonzalez to capitalize with a sneaky left hook that sealed the fate.
