Penn State’s 2012 recruiting class is in the books. Over the past few months it reflected the highs of lows of Penn State football’s most emotional times, and now reflects the hope and promise we have for the future. Over the next few days, NittanyLionsDen.com will be reviewing each signee’s film and giving a little bit of insight as to how they fit into the class.

Steven Bench (Cairo, Georgia)
Penn State got a verbal from one of its top targets at the position months ago when Stanford de-commit Skyler Mornhinweg pledged to the Nittany Lions. However, following the head coaching change, Mornhinweg de-committed and Penn State’s new staff set their eyes on a lowly rated quarterback from the Deep South: Steven Bench.
Bench’s highlight reel is a little difficult to decipher. This is because his high school offense utilized a lot of bootlegs and triple option plays, which rarely allowed Bench to get his feet set. However, Bench is a duel-threat quarterback with excellent power-running and lower body strength. His accuracy while running is as good as any recruit in the country, and he has shown a high intelligence level by reportedly maintaining a 3.8 GPA. His downside may be his relative lack of arm strength. However, he does have good size at about 6’2” and 200 lbs.
