Penn State secures commitment from kicker Quinn Nordin. He released a music video for the announcement.

This is a thing that actually happened. This is the age in which we live. It is part fascinating, and part self-serving. But hey, Penn State got the nation’s top kicker so how many fans are really going to complain?

Nordin is the nation’s top-ranked kicker in the Class of 2016 according to Rivals. The Michigan native announced he will be joining Penn State’s Class of 2016 Friday morning, which is another huge boost for Penn State’s special teams efforts in the recruiting class. Just a few weeks ago the Nittany Lions added one of the top punters in the nation with the addition of Blake Gillikin to the Class of 2016. That is two scholarship special teams specialists, which should help improve the special teams production and effectiveness dramatically early on starting next year.

But it will be how Nordin, a kicker, announced his decision that has caught the attention of most this morning. How do you get people from around the country to notice the addition of a kicker to a recruiting class? With a music video, of course. Nordin released a brief video showing off his decision Friday morning.

I just got done saying Franklin is embracing new technology and ways of interacting with his recruits and players and fans, but I would be curious to know his thoughts of this music video. By the way, Nordin is from Michigan. He’s not exactly coming home, as the video would suggest. If nothing else, this is another sign that Penn State football has entered a new era and everyone seems to be embracing it.

Yep. It’s a brand new era folks. We might as well get used to it.
