Cleveland Browns: Why is WR Greg Little Struggling in 2013?

All the signs were there. Coming off his great second half of last season and leading the Browns in receptions for the second year in a row, Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Greg Little was poised to have a great year. Now, six games into the 2013 campaign, where is he?

On the year, the third-year pro has just 16 receptions for 161 yards. Little scored his first touchdown of the season last week against the Detroit Lions. The guy that switched his jersey number from 15 to 18 in the off-season to satisfy a teammate, ranks fifth on the team in receptions. Non-starter and fullback, Chris Ogbonnaya has more receptions (20) than Little. Troubled by an early season demotion, multiple traffic violations, and a shady end to his college career, Little has been a huge disappointment for the Browns this year. The 24-year-old that played his college ball for the North Carolina Tarheels is ranked 11th in the NFL with four dropped passes. That number could easily and should be six.

Now back in the starting role with teammate, Davone Bess moved back in the slot, Little hopes to join Josh Gordon as an elite playmaker in these final ten games. When asked why he has struggled to start the season, he had this to say, “I was just pushing myself, trying to do more than what was there, trying to hit a home run on every ball. I need to just hit a base hit and keep it moving.” Little continued on about the rest of the season, saying “I just want to continue to get better every week and continue to make game-changing plays. So far, the Browns haven’t seen any of those “game-changing” plays he speaks about.

At least Little realizes his poor play and is determined to fix it. Now back in the starting line-up, Little added “My performance itself was a wakeup call.”  If the brown-and-orange are to have any more success in the final ten games, they have to get some positive production out of Little. Otherwise, the 2014 NFL Draft could have a receiver in the mix for the Browns early.
