This season has been full of ups and downs so far for the Cleveland Indians. The Wahoos have seen themselves slip out of first and second place in the AL Central. As with any team contending, injuries are plaguing the Tribe. However, some much-needed help is on the way. Lonnie Chisenhall was recalled from Columbus today and will start at third base tonight for the Indians.
Chisenhall is a huge piece of the puzzle this year for the Tribe. He was sent down earlier this year to work out the “kinks”. The 24-year old was demoted in the middle of May after starting out the season with a .213 batting average. Things were not looking good for the Tribe’s infielder and Terry Francona assured just about everyone that he would be back. Two months later, Chisenhall, a once top prospect in all of the club, is back. With good reason too.
It’s safe to say a light bulb went off for Chisenhall. He is as hot as they come right now. In 27 games with the Clippers, Chisenhall batted .390, belted six home runs, and drove in 26 runners. That is almost an RBI a game. If he can provide some spark to the offense, the Indians will welcome that with open arms.
Tonight versus the Kansas City Royals, Chisenhall will start at the hot corner and bat seventh in line up. For the Indians, Ubaldo Jimenez (5-4, 4.79 ERA) faces off against Ervin Santana (5-5, 2.74 ERA) for the Royals at Progressive Field at 7:05 PM. The Royals took game one of the series yesterday.
