Welcome to Cleveland Sports Fanatics Friday! This is your chance to be heard and voice your opinion. These are the questions that came in this past week.
If Josh Freeman goes to Oakland should Cleveland pursue Terrelle Pryor this offseason considering what Chud did for Cam Newton? – Shaun PeterMan (Savannah, GA)
Very interesting question Shaun. First off, on behalf of all the Cleveland Browns fans on the globe, THANK YOU for your services in the United States Army and protecting our freedom.
Secondly, with Brian Hoyer going down last week against Buffalo, I believe it is inevitable that the new Browns brass selects a quarterback in the first round in 2014. So, the question becomes – Is there a QB in next year’s draft that is a better choice than Pryor or any other quarterback that is available in the Browns’ eyes. Newton is a special player that fit Chud’s system. However, I don’t believe Pryor would fit in Cleveland’s system. The Browns are not a “pistol” offense and have never had a scrambling quarterback. I would pass on the former Buckeye that tainted his career with stupidity.
Who do you think the Browns should go with at quarterback for the remainder of the season and why? We will need one in some form because Hoyer is out for the year. – Mike Mowery (Niles, OH)
This is the question that has floated through everyone’s mind since the first quarter injury to Hoyer last Thursday night. While most feel the Browns need to bring someone in, they are better off with Weeden for now – and I put a huge emphasis on now. Let’s tackle the Freeman debate first. Despite throwing for over 4,000 yards a season ago, Freeman is on the decline. In only his fifth year, Freeman has completed just 45.7% of his passes and thrown just two touchdowns in three contests. Whether it’s his head and off-the-field issues or his ability, the million dollar question is – can Freeman produce better than Brandon Weeden?
I say no. Now, this answer could change by week ten. For now, the Browns must stick with Weeden and just hope that he can find “himself”. If Weeden could just learn to release the ball quicker or throw it away under pressure and not take drive killing sacks, the Cleveland defense is good enough to help support the team. Though it’s sad to say about a former first round pick, Weeden needs to just manage games and not make dumb decisions.
With the Washington Redskins organization having an upcoming meeting with leaders of a Native American tribe in regards to losing their nickname, do you feel that Cleveland Indians would ever give up their nickname or even Chief Wahoo? Brad Rosenbauer (Columbus, OH)
Hello my former Bay Rocket teammate! For years I have gone down to the stadium and witnessed the Wahoo protesters outside. I do not believe the term “Indian” is offensive as “Redskin”. Over the past couple of years, the Indians organization has been slowly phasing out the wahoo logo and replacing it with other logos. I do not believe the Cleveland Indians will ever give up their name or Chief Wahoo. There is too much tradition there with the whole topic.
