If the Philadelphia Phillies were looking for any good news during the All-star break it did not happen tonight as Cliff Lee did not have a great start in his final rehab stint.
Lee, who is still pitching in Single-A Clearwater got lit up for eight runs (three of them earned) over 4 2/3 innings tonight. He would also give up eight hits, walk a batter, and give up a home run. These were not the kind of the results the Phillies front office was looking for tonight from the starting pitcher.
Lee is scheduled to come off the DL next week but who knows if he will after tonight’s performance. We do not know yet if he had any physical or mechanical problems such as how his elbow felt or how his velocity was.
I’m pretty sure we will find out something regarding Cliff Lee either tonight or tomorrow. In terms of Lee being used as a trade piece, it is hard at this point because at tops he will get two starts when he comes back to the big league club and what contending team would want his contract. Teams would take a look at his other two teammates in A.J. Burnett and Cole Hamels, who both have been pitching pretty consistent for the most part this season.
