What a sloppy first 20…. The Devils got beat in nearly every category of the game in the opening period. Beat on the score board, beat in the shots on goal department, all around a miserable start for a team that has been so efficient in their first three starts of the season. A game up north would see a sibling rivalry commence; Habs Captain & former Devils great Brian Gionta would square off for the first time in his NHL career against baby brother, "Baby Gio" Stephen. As for the Gionta playing for us, he has 1 goal in 3 games played with a +/- ratio of +1, on the other side of the puck, Brian has 2 goals, 1 assist for 3pts in as many games for Montreal. Coming into tonight the Devils would look to increase their 3-0 start to the (shortened) 2012-13 schedule. Finding themselves in a hole early on and going into the locker room after going down by two on goals by Montreal forwards Ryan White & Brendan Gallagher, the Devils needed to bring back that 'fight' that they had and executed so many times last season. They did.
Nearly four minutes into the second period, Devils' all-time leading scorer Patrik Elias would crack Carey Price's goose-egg, a goal for the Devils
