Coach Kreis and RSL Right the Ship

It’s been awhile since I wrote here, and there are a lot of things to shout about regarding Real Salt Lake; some happy shouts, some frustrated growls. But I’m going to take Coach Kreis’s advice to his players: “We don’t get to up or too low. We’re trying to stay on an even keel,” said Kyle Beckerman, Chris Wingert and just about everyone else in the RSL locker room.

So I’m not going to boast about Saborío’s header-hat trick or his 3rd career MLS POTW honor.

I’m not going to dwell on the fact that RSL (and 12 other MLS clubs) are unrepresented in the fan-selected All-Star Starting XI.

I’m not going to start a petition to save Javi Morales’s ankles, or take you turn-by-turn through his up-showing slalom through 3 Timbers defenders.

I’m not going to weigh in on the amount of time a losing coach (Spencer, Winter, Novak, Fraser?) should be allowed to turn things around.

I’m not going to pine for the Rio Tinto fortifications of 2010-11.

I’m not going to agonize over wrongly disallowed goals in 0–0 draws.

I’m not going to compare their early-season good fortune against Portland, Dallas and New England to their recent bad luck against San Jose and LA.

Or try to account for their defensive incompetence in Columbus, their offensive indifference against Seattle.

I’m just going to sit back and calmly re-watch the highlights from RSL’s 3–0 win on Saturday against another team content to defend and counter.

Here’s to an even-keeled Act II in the 2012 MLS regular season.
