Cody Ceci Signs ELC
With a number of other teams having inked their 2012 first round draft selections to entry level contracts, the Ottawa Senators announced this afternoon that they have signed defenceman Cody Ceci to a three-year ELC of his own.

From the press release:

Ceci, 18, was the Senators’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, which was held in June in Pittsburgh. An Ottawa native, Ceci has spent all of his three-season major junior career with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s, for whom he scored 17 goals and added 43 assists in 64 games last season. In 196 career games with the 67’s, he has registered 106 points (30 goals, 76 assists) and 54 penalty minutes.

The 6-2, 206-pound defencemen recently competed for his country, playing two games in the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge held in Yaroslavl, Russia, and Halifax earlier this month. Ceci also participated is his first Senators development camp earlier this summer after being drafted by the Senators.

It’s kind of quaint how for the past few weeks, it’s been business as usual for some NHL organizations. Hartnell and Simmonds were exteneded, various ELC’s were signed. Hell, an Edmonton Oilers first rounder even got hurt.

Savour these moments. With the remote possibility there won’t be a lockout, these small transactions are the only pieces of normalcy that we’ll get as we approach that September 15th drop dead date.

And yes, this post was more mailed in than the typical Alexei Kovalev shift.
