Cody Grimm probably typifies the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recent knack for acquiring great talent at great value. Grimm, a 7th round draft pick out of Virginia Tech, made the most of his position when Tanard Jackson was suspended for one year for substance abuse issues.
Grimm was the surprise choice, as many felt Sabby Piscitelli was next in line for the starting safety position. But Grimm impressed coaches in the preseason and in camp, and he got the nod.
A decision that wasn’t all roses from the get go….
Grimm got lost against Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace, but even after that play he consolidated his wits and finished the game with some good film.
After the bye week, Cody Grimm did at safety in his second start what John Lynch was not able to do in all the years he played here…
Score a touchdown on an interception return! Grimm did so against the Bengals and it was a key play in the outcome of the game.
Grimm was injured later in the season by friendly fire while blocking for an Aqib Talib after an interception return by No.25. By all reports his injury has healed up nicely, and Grimm will be back at safety competing for the starting gig even with Tanard Jackson returning.
