The Red Sox headed into the game tonight after having their former teammate Kevin Youkilis beat them with a HR to the Monster. Tonight, it would be Felix Doubront’s turn to take on Youk and the White Sox.
To keep with the trend, Doubront gave up a run in the first inning. Dubi gave up the run with an RBI single to Konerko to give the White Sox a 1-1 lead. The offense would give Doubront that run right back and after the 1st inning, he would settle right down and pitch himself a pretty good game. Dubi wouldn’t give up another run and pitched 6 strong innings. Doubront’s pitching line for the night was 96 pitches, 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB and 2 Ks. With the win tonight Doubront is the first of the Red Sox starters to get to 10 wins on the season. Doubront was followed by scoreles innings from Albers, Melancon and Miller to finish out the night.
The offense didn’t look like it missed David Ortiz tonight. The BoSox got the run back for Doubront in the bottom of the 1st inning. Ellsbury hit a stand up double and the Gonzo hit an RBI single to score him. BoSox 1-1. In the 3rd inning, Cody Ross hit a 3 run HR to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. In the 4th inning, Ross decided to have a little sense of deja vu and hit ANOTHER 3 run HR to bring the lead to 7-1. Cody Ross sure does love left handed pitching and has been one of the best signing for the Sox of the offseason. Adrian Gonzalez didn’t want to feel left out, so he homered right after Cody to extend the lead to 8-1. In the 6th, Gonzo hit another RBI single to score Crawford and Ross for the final runs of the night. Sox 10-1. Gonzo sure looks locked in at the plate right now. Gonzo went 3 for 4 on the night. Ells went 3 for 4 on the night. Cody Ross went 3 for 5. If the offense keeps up at this pace, the 15 days Papi is on the shelf will fly right by.
And how did Youk do tonight? It’s the first night he didn’t kill us at the plate. Youk went 1 for 4 on the night. Tomorrow is the last night of Youkalapalooza and then the White Sox head outta town.
