Cole Hamels could join the Phillies next week vs. Dodgers

With the Philadelphia Phillies winning on Thursday 1-0 over the Atlanta Braves and avoiding a sweep, they got some more good news from the minors.

According to Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News, Cole Hamels tonight threw seven innings, 81 of those pitches he threw were for strikes and only gave up one home run but that was in the fifth inning. The good news is that he did not have any pain or discomfort after tonight’s final rehab start with the Clearwater Threshers.

Hamels began the season on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow tendinitis. In three rehab starts, he has a 2.12 ERA and has 12 strikeouts in 17 innings.

According to Lawrence’s article, Cole Hamels could return as early as Tuesday or could pitch on Wednesday. If anything with Hamels returning to the Phillies it will give the starting rotation a boost.
