Last week we watched as five teams fell from the pack of unbeatens. This week we’ve got three undefeated teams that will face top 25 foes. Here are the games you should be watching this week….
Thursday, Nov 1st
Virginia Tech (4-4, 2-2) at Miami (4-4, 2-2)
Nothing says “must see” like two 4-4 teams but this is a very important game for both of these schools and for the ACC. The Hokies have severely underperformed this season and going under .500 with FSU up next would be a disaster. The scary thing about this game is that both of these two teams have two conference losses which puts them into a tie for first place in the division with Duke and UNC (who is ineligible). As scary as it sounds, the winner of this game puts themselves in the drivers seat to go the ACC Championship Game.
Friday, Nov 2nd
Washington (4-4, 2-3) at California (3-6, 2-4)
Both of these teams have underperformed this season but both have some very intriguing talent. Jeff Tedford will be fighting to save his job and Washington will be fighting towards bowl eligibility. Watch this because…well quite frankly because there aren’t any other games on TV.
Saturday, Nov 3rd
Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2) at Mississippi State (7-1, 3-1), Noon, ESPN
The Aggies have been one of the more pleasant surprises in the country but they are really going to be tested over the next two weeks. First with this game against the Bulldogs and then on the road against Alabama. So far the Aggies are 4-0 on the road but their competition hasn’t exactly been tough in those games. Much like the Aggies are undefeated on the road, the Bulldogs are undefeated at home (5-0) but also like the Aggies those five wins haven’t come against the stiffest of competition. Watch this game to find out who is the third best team in the SEC West. Another interesting game in this time slot pits undefeated Louisville at home against Temple (ABC).
TCU (5-3, 2-3) at West Virginia (5-2, 2-2), 3 PM, FOX
This game was a lot more intriguing a couple of weeks ago before the Mountaineers went into the tank but this game still pits the newest members of the Big 12 Conference in their first game against each other. These two teams average 74 points of offense between them so expect lots of points to be scored. Watch this one to see if Geno Smith can somehow work his way back onto the Heisman depth chart. There are a few more games to check out in this slot as Georgia faces their toughest remaining opponent in Ole Miss (CBS), undefeated Notre Dame hosts Pittsburgh (NBC) and Texas and Texas Tech (ABC) face off in a battle of 6-2 teams.
Alabama (8-0, 5-0) at LSU (7-1, 3-1), 8 PM, CBS
The SEC West has once again come down to this game. Last year, both teams came into this game undefeated and waged a defensive battle. This year it’s the Tide that comes in undefeated as the Tigers have dropped a game to Florida in Gainesville. LSU is almost impossible to beat at home in night games and the Tide have been impossible to beat this year. Which team will budge? There are two other very important games in this time slot that will have an impact on the National Title picture as Oregon plays USC (FOX) and Oklahoma State travels to Kansas State (ABC).
Arizona State (5-3, 3-2) at Oregon State (6-1, 4-1), 10:30 PM, ESPN2
The night cap is brought to us by the Pac-12. Oregon State tries to bounce back from their first loss of the season as they go to back-up QB Cody Vaz. Arizona State will try to bounce back from two straight losses as they hope to keep their Pac-12 Championship Game hopes alive.
