Colt Brennan Returns to Football With UFL’s Hartford Colonials

Former Washington Redskins reserve quarterback Colt Brennan returns to the gridiron with the United Football Leagues’ Hartford Colonials. Brennan joins Josh McCown, the Colonials No. 1 quarterback and the UFL’s leading passer in 2010. Jerry Glanville is the Colonials coach.

Brennan was a popular Redskin while with the team. And he was a blogger favorite as a hit magnet. The very mention of his name drew traffic like nothing else. (Good times) Most of those hits cam from Hawaii Warriors fans convinced that Brennan was destined to be the next Peyton Manning. Alas, it was his fate that Washington drafted him in the Jim Zorn era, the start of a tumultuous two year period for the team.

Brennan was a preseason giant in 2008 and ’09. A hamstring injury landed him on Injured Reserve in September 2009. He was released later that yeer.

Brennan was hospitalized in Hawaii with broken ribs, collar bone and a head injury after a serious auto accident in which he was the passenger. He was released from Queen’s Medical Center in November 2010.

I liked Brennan and wish him well. He was part of a comic duo with ‘skins tight end Chris Cooley that spiced Washington’s sports culture with a bit of mirth.

I wish him well in the UFL, but with McCown already on the roster, it will be another uphill climb for Mr. Brennan.
