Social good t-shirt company 26 Shirts is expanding into the Pittsburgh market this fall to announce its line of sports-themed t-shirts for charity. Since the initial round of t-shirts launched in the company’s hometown of Buffalo, the company has expanded to Chicago. Pittsburgh will be the third 26 Shirts city. The shirts will become available once 1,000 entries are entered into the launch giveaway. To enter into the launch giveaway, just sign up for their e-mail newsletter here!
“26 Shirts is about giving back to families in need while fostering a sense of pride in a city’s sports teams and we knew Pittsburgh was the best choice for our third city,” said 26 Shirts Co-Founder Del Reid. “We have received numerous requests from followers as well as families in need asking us to expand into other cities, and with the help and encouragement from our loyal fans, we are able to broaden our reach of support to cities outside of Buffalo.”
The official launch date is still to be determined. 26 Shirts will officially kick off their Pittsburgh campaign once they reach 1,000 email newsletter subscriptions as a part of the 26 Shirts Pittsburgh Season Ticket launch giveaway. By subscribing to the electronic newsletter, entrants are entered into winning the entire Pittsburgh year 1 collection of 26 shirts. The first shirt has already been designed and will be modeled by a current Pittsburgh Steeler.
“In order to maximize our impact from the start, we decided it was best to raise as much awareness about the organization through social media and email so that our launch is streamlined and impactful,” says 26 Shirt Co-Founder Dan Gigante. “Pittsburghers have a great amount of pride in their hometown and a devoted passion for their sports teams. We want to make sure that we reflect that accurately in the shirts we create by getting the message out to as many people as possible.”
Since it’s launch in November of 2013, 26 Shirts has donated over $143,000 to 61 families and foundations in need through the 53 shirts sold in Buffalo and the 16 shirts sold in Chicago.
Every two weeks, a new family is chosen, and their story is shared online to help raise awareness of their current situation alongside the corresponding shirt. The limited edition, sports-themed shirts cost $21.95 with $8 going directly to the family and another $1 going to the artist who created the shirt as compensation for their time and effort. With growing success, 26 Shirts has brought in support of 19 active and retired players between Buffalo and Chicago’s sports teams including Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, and Denis Savard.
A complete archive of the families helped can be found online along with the option to purchase retired shirts at random.
26 Shirts is the charitable brainchild of Del Reid and Dan Gigante. Started in November, 2013, this philanthropic campaign acts as a means to raise funds and awareness for families and foundations in need through the sale of limited edition, sports- themed t-shirts. Local artists’ designs are printed on a two-week run of shirts with a portion of the shirts’ sales going directly to the families in need.
For more information, visit the 26 Shirts website, or check them out on Facebook and Twitter. This is a great cause and it takes 2 seconds to sign up for the newsletter. If you look through their archive of shirts, you’ll see that it’s not just football shirts, but also baseball and hockey shirts that are released throughout the season. They’re over halfway to the sign-up goal to be able to launch the first shirt, which is Steelers themed. It would be pretty cool if the shirt could be released in time for the home opener against San Francisco. So take two seconds and sign up for the newsletter.
