Commish’s comments

Phil B covers what was said.

Middle linebacker Gary Brackett was asked if he liked what he heard from the commish. The Colts’ defensive captain paused for a moment, trying to decide the politically correct response. I thought the pause was telling.

“Ummm, ahhh, I think it’s a work in progress,” Brackett said. “I think there’s a lot of stuff to be figured out.”

He was asked later if he was saving his money. He said he was and encouraged other players to do the same.

He mentioned the issues, specifically the proposal for an 18-game schedule and what it does to the players’ bodies as well as the players’ piece of the pie and what the owners’ expenses are and what profits are being made.

I put him on the spot after a few other questions, asking him about the pause, if there was something he had hoped to hear Goodell say.

Brackett backpedaled, “We can talk about football. We can move this conversation. I’m not going to be the spokesperson.”
