Today, the NHL’s Competition Committee has recommended the mandatory wearing of visors be grandfathered in starting next season.
Under the agreement, players who have played 26 or more regular season or playoff games will not be forced to wear a visor.
Using shallower nets as well as a hybrid icing rule to be tested in preseason were also recommended rule changes.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger the Committee discussed some issues in conjunction with the mandatory wearing of visors including the mandatory wearing of helmets during fights. These proposed rules are not at the stage when they would be enforced.
The Committee also proposed video review for high-sticking double minors.
All proposed changes must be approval by the League’s Board of Governors.
