The Blues are being tested with injuries early and often. Paul Stastny has had a couple of setbacks and several other players have missed time due to illness or various bumps and bruises. The injury picture grew a bit darker following the team’s thrilling OT win against Dallas. David Backes and T.J. Oshie have been diagnosed with concussions and are both sidelined indefinitely.
Here’s the injury to Backes:
And here’s Oshie’s:

Two very different plays, but both resulted in the dreaded “concussion” label. As with any concussion, the recovery time can differ greatly between two players. It’s truly an injury you monitor by the day and see what happens. For now, expect Oshie and Backes to miss at least a couple games, but keep the possibility open that an extended absence is possible.
This presents a big opportunity for Dmitrij Jaskin, Chris Porter and Magnus Paajarvi. All three are fighting for NHL time and all three have a chance to make an impact while the big guns are out.
