The Oakland Raiders special teams got a lift today when long snapper Jon Condo was added to the AFC Pro Bowl squad. Per PFT, he was not added as a replacement for an injured player, but to provide a player who would feel comfortable in the long snapping duties.
Condo has quietly been a key piece of the Raiders special teams. With both Sebastian Janikowski and Shane Lechler having monster years, it is only fitting that the man who snaps the ball right on target to them every time gets some respect. What is even more telling is that after the snap, the Raiders have had zero kicks or punts blocked. This means that Condo is not only getting the ball to a perfect spot, he is blocking out the would-be rushers. If that was all he did, he would just be a valuable piece to the team. He is also consistently among the team leaders in special teams tackles.
Condo’s addition to the roster gives the Raiders three players on the Pro Bowl squad. If alternates Richard Seymour and Zach Miller are given the call to report to South Florida, the Raiders will have as many Pro Bowlers as they did wins.
