Much like the recent signings of Zach Smith and Colin Greening, it was only a matter of time before Erik Condra signed an extension of his own.
The Notre Dame grad was rewarded for his strong play in Binghamton (55 GP, 17 G and 30 A) with late season promotion to Ottawa. With the season already forlorn and the organization peddling veteran talent for future assets, Condra’s work ethic and compete level were immediately transparent. The contagious nature of his game He also managed to contribute offensively – racking up 6 goals and 5 assists in 26 games.
At the conclusion of the NHL season, he was returned to Binghamton where he played a large role in their Calder Cup winning run posting 5 goals and 12 assists in 23 playoff games.
Bruce Garrioch (@SunGarrioch) tweeted that Condra was rewarded with a two year, one-way deal worth 600,000 in 2011-12 and $650,000 in 2012-13. His AAV (average annual value) is $625,000.
Next up on the agenda is the formality of getting Bobby Butler inked to a new deal. Interestingly, if Butler accepts his qualifying offer, his contract would automatically become a two-way one.
According to Tim Murray,
“We’ve just been talking back and forth. Both sides have said if we can’t come to an agreement, his side and our side are happy with him playing on the qualifying offer — which was a two-way contract — and going from there. But I’m sure will have more talks going forward and, hopefully, we can hammer out something that’s a little different than that.”
With the additions of Nikita Filatov and Zenon Konopka and a number of Ottawa’s incumbent forwards agreeing to terms on one-way contracts, it’s going to be an interesting training camp to watch unfold. Assuming Bryan Murray and management can convince Jakub Silfverberg to play in North America in 2011-12, something’s going to have to give.
