The Boston Celtics are all about history. The team is steeped in decades of it, and that extends to the broadcast teams. Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn have been working together for more than 30 years now… which is longer than some of you have been alive (oh, shoot me).
Now, it's time to honor, and thank, Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell… who will be calling their 1,000th radio game for the Celtics tonight.
“The entire Boston Celtics organization would like to congratulate Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell on their 1,000th broadcast together,” Boston Celtics President Rich Gotham said in a statement released by the team. “Grande and Max have become the voices of the Celtics on the radio for a whole generation of fans. They have exhibited great chemistry and professionalism throughout their partnership and we look forward to many more seasons of high quality play-by-play and analysis from them.”
In addition to being one of the best play-by-play guys out there, Grande is really good on Twitter. If you're a Celtics fan on Twitter and you haven't followed him, I suggest you do.
I'd like to personally thank Grande and Max for their work on Celtics games. There have been countless times where I've been stuck in traffic on 128 and had to tune in to the radio broadcast. And not once did I feel like I missed anything. In fact, without a game to watch, you're hanging on the announcer's every word and every change in inflection to tell you the story. It can get a little more exciting, because you have to wait for the reaction so you can react. Listening to a game on the radio is a much different experience. These guys do it as well as anyone.
Congratulations on 1,000 games… and here's to a 1,000 more (and hopefully a few more championships mixed in).
