Congratulations Gruden/Allen, your 2007 Draft is now officially a BUST too!

With the news that Sabby Piscitelli has been cut by the Bucs for, well, name it, Quincy Black is the sole starter left over from an NFL Draft that occured only 3 years ago. That is a time when your draft picks should be reaching star status or at least close to it, as Aqib Talib is already (2008) and many players from far lower draft positions are that came from the 2009 and 2010 selection. Tragedy unfortunatly is the biggest culprit, at least in the long run. Gaines Adams was the No.1 pick, but before his tragic passing he was under performing and was traded away. No.2 Round saw the Bucs take two players, the first was Aaron Sears who is out of football with emotional issues, that now are starting to look like issues that were prevalent BEFORE the concussion he suffered. Then, deep in the second round, the Bucs took Piscitelli, which was a pick acquired from the Indianapolis Colts given to us for Anthony Booger McFarland. Talk about double dipping in some dung! The NFL draft has always had an aura of more magic than science. Teams and companies come up with a multitude of means to try to determine if a player has that “IT” factor; Wonderlic tests, the Combine where players endure feats they usually never try in the NFL, but for the most part those tests have lessened the draft “Busts” to some degree. Ultimately drafting is still a task best left to the magicians who have mastered it. Raheem Morris and Mark Dominik have struck gold in the last two seasons with starters all the way down in the 7th round. They even are finding high level play from men not even drafted, taken off other teams practice squads. In any event, the NFL draft has always been more of a game of hindsight, which we all know is 20/20. But the loss of Piscitelli now means the Bucs completely blew their reward for that horrendous 2006 season. Rumors floated around that draft day that Jon Gruden wanted WR Calvin Johnson, and was ready to trade the Bucs 1st and 2nd round picks to Detroit for his rights. Hindsight tells us that was a no brainer. Were pretty happy with the WRs we have right now, but a guy who could catch anything vs a guy who cant sack, doesnt want to play NFL football, and a guy who cant cover? Thats easy science if you ask me.
