Michigan State fans received good news on Tuesday afternoon as they found out their star quarterback Connor Cook will be reportedly returning for his senior season.
Cook said on Tuesday:
“I have unfinished business that I want to accomplish next year. I think the only way I can do that is if I return.”
Many NFL Draft analysts had Cook being a first round pick in the upcoming 2015 draft but if he plays well next season he should be a lock to be a top 10 pick in the 2016 draft.
This season as a full-time starter for the Spartans, Cook has 2,900 yards, 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Michigan State, who won the Rose Bowl last season over Stanford almost was in the College Football Playoff this season. But with an early season loss to Oregon and then a loss to Ohio State later in the season, it knocked the Spartans out of contention.
Not to worry though as Cook and the Spartans will be taking on co-Big 12 champion Baylor in the Cotton Bowl on January 1. This will be a great test for Cook as Baylor’s defense is only giving up 24.2 points per game which is ranked 43rd in the nation. Also many NFL Draft analysts will be able to see him face off against Bryce Petty. Petty, the senior quarterback could be a mid-round pick come draft day.
