The Red Sox fell to the Blue Jays once again, this time behind Aaron Cook. The day started with a lot of emotion as it was “Thanks Tek” day at Fenway. Jason Varitek was at the park and the Red Sox celebrated his career from little league up him being a crucial part of two Sox world championships. Thanks Tek!
Aaron Cook pitched well until he got to the 6th inning. Cook gave up one run in the 3rd when the Jays had the bases loaded and no outs. Cook got a rare K and then Lawrie scored an RBI sac fly to give the Jays their first run. Cook would keep trucking along getting ground ball after ground ball until the 6th inning. He gave up a towering HR over the Monster to Encarnacion to tie the game. In the 7th, Cook gave up another no doubter of a HR to Arencibia to give the Jays the lead.
In the 7th, Bobby V used 4 pitchers and none of it seemed to go well. With one out, he pulled Cook and Morales was in the game. Morales got a strikeout, but also issued a walk. Morales was out and Albers was in. Albers gave a 2 RBI hit to Lawrie and the Jays lead 6-3. Albers then IBB Rasmus and then unintentionally walked Encarnacion. Albers was out and Miller was in. Miller threw 3 pitches and struck out Lind to end the inning. That inning seemed to go on forever. Padilla pitched a scoreless 8th and then Tazawa was on for the 9th. Tazawa gave up the final run by giving up a leadoff double to Davis and he came home on a fielder’s choice.
As for the offense, it was basically just Jarrod Saltalamacchia and that’s about it. Salty hit a 3 run HR in the 2nd inning. After that Villanueva settled right down and the Sox couldn’t get really anything else going against him.
Red Sox 3 Blue Jays 7 BOXSCORE
