Aaron Cook was making his first back to back starts in 2012 and he also got his first back to back win. Cook pitched wonderfully and walked away with a complete game shutout win.
Cook looked in control from the first inning and kept rolling. Cook didn’t give up his first hit until the 4th inning when he gave up a leadoff single to Ichiro. The next time Cook would see a baserunner would be in the 6th inning when Ackley reached through a fielding error by Aviles, but Cook retired the next 3 batters in order to end the inning. The last hit Cook would give up would be a single in the 8th inning to Jaso. To say Cook looked tremendous would be an understatement, especially given that he is just coming off the DL. Cook’s pitching line for the night was 9 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks. He did that all in 81 pitches. Aaron Cook…he’s kind of awesome.

As for the offense, the Red Sox bats turned the middle innings of the game into a HR derby. In the 5th, the Sox hit 3 solo HRs to give the Sox a 3-0. The first HR was by rookie Will Middlebrooks. That was his 10th HR of the season. Cody Ross hit a back to back HR for the 2nd dinger of the inning. The 3rd homer of the inning was by Daniel Nava. The Sox kept at it in the 6th when Papi hit a double and then Salty hit a 2 run HR. Sox 5-0. That would be more than enough for the kind of night Aaron Cook was having. The Sox did end up having the bases loaded with 2 outs in the 9th, however Pedey lined out to end the inning.
