MIKE HAMPTON
First Year on Ballot
PLAYING CAREER: Seattle Mariners (1993), Houston Astros (1994–1999), New York Mets (2000), Colorado Rockies (2001–2002), Atlanta Braves (2003–2005 and 2008), Houston Astros (2009) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2010).
ACHIEVEMENTS: Two-time All-Star (1999 and 2001). 2000 National League Championship Series MVP. 2003 Gold Glove Award winner. Led the National League in wins in 1999 with 22. Major League record five-time Silver Slugger Award winner (1999–2003). In 2003, became the first pitcher ever to win the Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger awards in the same season. Coincidentally, the Gold Glove also snapped then-Atlanta teammate Greg Maddux’s streak of 13 consecutive awards. Hampton was the only National League pitcher other than Maddux to win a Gold Glove during Maddux’s career from 1989 and onward.

Will "Zack Greinke to Arizona" be the "Mike Hampton to the Rockies" of this era of baseball?

HOVG THOUGHTS: For a minute during the 1999 or 2000 season, people probably thought Hampton would go on to do something great. Then he went to Colorado and all bets were off.
