Welp…that didn't take long.
Almost immediately after Derek Jeter announced this upcoming season would be his last, hotels in Cooperstown started getting calls from people hoping to secure a room for the New York Yankees captain's Hall of Fame induction weekend.
“Once the announcement was made our phone started ringing,” Ed Cox, general manager of Holiday Inn Express and Suites Cooperstown told the New York Daily News.
But there's a big problem…the hotels don't even have 2020 on their radar.
"Our system only allows 52 weeks out,” general manager of the Best Western in Cooperstown, Bob Holt, told the Albany Times-Union.
“One person insisted on leaving his name for me to call him when a room became available," Cox added.
Of course, talking about a date more than six years away is a nice problem to have considering last July, when crowds were estimated at 2,500. And with Jeter's popularity, the crowd to watch him get enshrined could rival that from 2007, when the induction of Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken Jr. brought in close to 80,000 people.
But if you ask Cooperstown Mayor Jeff Katz…the Class of 2014 might just be the one to beat!
"It’s a stellar class for this summer. Six greats, all first ballot, all deserving. It’s going to be very exciting," Katz told The Hall of Very Good. "If Chicago and Atlanta fans come out in good numbers (which I think they will), and New Yorkers come out for Torre and Glavine, it could be one of our biggest inductions ever!"
