There’s no doubt that the University of Wisconsin football team is looking to get back on track in the run game in 2016. A large part of that hope surrounds now senior running back Corey Clement.
On Thursday, Clement was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list. The Doak Walker Award is given out annually to the best college football running back in the country and UW has had three other running backs win the award: Ron Dayne (1999), Montee Ball (2012) and Melvin Gordon (2014).
UW is the only program in the country to boast three Doak Walker Award winners in the history of the award.
Clement was named to this watch list ahead of last season too, as he was coming off a near 1,000-yard season as the primary backup to Melvin Gordon in 2014. However, a serious injury derailed his season after just a few snaps against Alabama and his comeback from sports hernia surgery was a difficult one.
In total, Clement put up just 221 yards on 48 carries with five touchdowns last season.
He is looking to bounce back after that injury-riddled season and reignite the 1,000-yard running back streak that was stopped last season.
For his career, Clement has 1,717 yards and 21 touchdowns, while averaging a healthy 6.6 yards per carry in his career.
