Corey Clement ruled out for Saturday’s tilt with Miami (OH)

After learning about Corey Clement’s injury in the wake of getting just eight carries in the Week 1 loss to Alabama, many wondered if this could be a lingering thing. It appears that Clement’s strained groin is indeed lingering, as Mike Lucas, the Badgers color radio broadcaster, is reporting Clement is out for the game on Saturday.

That means it is the Dare Ogunbowale and Taiwan Deal show, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Wisconsin needs to figure out if it has depth in the run game thanks to the inexperience of all backs not named Clement.

It’s also probably a wise choice to let him heal up for an extra week, and let’s be honest, is he really needed for victory on Saturday? Wouldn’t he be better used come the Big Ten opener against Iowa or on the trip to Nebraska the following week?

Getting healthy for Big Ten play matters more than gutting it out against the Redhawks. Let’s just hope it’s not a long-term issue for the junior running back.

In other injury news, it appears starting tight end Troy Fumagalli is a no-go for the Cardinal and White and Tanner McEvoy is going to officially be a two-way player.

Buckle up for a much more interesting tilt than anyone of us thought at 11a.m. on ESPNU, huh?
