Cornell Green arrested for assault with mop handle

Well, for those of you who were hoping Cornell Green would not be part of the Raiders team this coming season, you may have gotten your wish.

Police Arrested Green on domestic batter charges as he was about to board plane for Oakland Saturday afternoon. This after Police said Green, used an aluminum mop handle to hit Teriyonal Flowers, 30, who is the mother of two of Green’s children, about 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

The incident started with an argument at their home in Tampa Florida. Green slammed Flowers against a wall, and then used the mop handle to hit her at least once on the right arm. Green then drove away.

Police learned he had a 5:30 p.m. flight to Oakland and arrested Green at Tampa International Airport before he boarded the plane.

He is being held in the Orient Road Jail in Tampa, charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond.

Last season Cornell Green was routinely “handled” on the block and had defenders “mop” the floor with him. So how appropriate that a mop handle was his weapon of choice in beating up his girlfriend?

With the Raiders new aquisitions at tackle, along with Paul McQuistan being healthy again, there was going to be quite a bit of competition at the tackle position. This newest incident will most certainly warrant a suspension by the league and just thinned out the competition considerably.

I fully expect that Cornell will not need to worry too much about catching that flight too soon. Unless he is eager to get out to Alameda and clean out his locker.
