Could Badgers be in position to land another pair of Texas Teammates?

Last Friday the Badgers got two verbal commitments from a pair of Texas high school teammates in a matter of hours. Dallas (South Oak Cliff), Texas teammates Takadrae Williams and X’zaviae Ausborne became the first commits from Texas in five years, and shocked many with their commitments.

However, Gary Andersen and his coaching staff is never content to just sit on verbal commitments and still has plenty of work to be done in the 2015 class. Over the last 24 hours a pair of interesting things happened on the recruiting trail in the state of Texas.

First, our recruiting partners over at Badger247 reported that unrated inside linebacker Chris Orr would be paying a visit ($) to Wisconsin over this upcoming weekend. It also just so happens to be the weekend when Wisconsin is holding it’s elite camp, and the list of visitors and campers continue to impress.

Then, word from Badger247 came on Tuesday afternoon that three-star wide receiver Kevin Thomas had Wisconsin in his top five ($).

What do those two pieces of news have in common? Orr and Thomas just so happen to be teammates at DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Additionally, it’s been reported that Orr and Thomas happen to have a very similar relationship to the one that Williams and Ausborne have. Both have talked about wanting to play together, but Thomas has a much more extensive offer list.

He has offers from the likes of Clemson, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Nebraska, San Diego State, SMU, Wake Forest, and others. While Orr’s only “Power 5” offer is the Badgers at this point.

Thomas plans on taking fall visits, and it could be that he and Orr will be on different timetables all together. Evan Flood of Badger247 has Crystal Balled Orr to Wisconsin recently; indicating that he believes a commitment could be on its way following his visit or at some point in the process.

Now, of course nothing is guaranteed until NLI’s are signed and players actually arrive on campus, but the signals are there should Wisconsin do what they’ve done a lot under Gary Andersen—mainly make the most of unofficial and official visits.

Considering the pair of teammates already on board from the great state of Texas, adding another duo from the state could really turn some heads on the recruiting trail. Few expected Wisconsin to be as big of a factor in the state, and it could be this foundation that really helps UW football move to a different level.

At the very least, keep these pair of teammates in mind as the summer recruiting season heats up. It could be a very interesting summer ahead for Wisconsin in the state of Texas.
