Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy tries to make a compelling argument for Jonathan Quick to win the Vezina Trophy over Henrik Lundqvist…
“But if you see the Vezina as an award not only for the goalie “adjudged to be the best at this position” but also the goalie who was vital to his team’s success, then Jonathan Quick beats Henrik Lundqvist for the award. He has better numbers, less support and has frankly faced more adversity (goodbye, Terry Murray) than has Lundqvist.”
Quick gave up five goals in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Sharks last night.
…that doesn’t sound like Vezina material to me.
Lundqvist numbers: 39-17-5, 1.93 gaa, .931 sv %, 8 so
Quick’s numbers: 35-21-12, 1.93 gaa, .929 sv %, 10 so
…it’s no secret that Hank has struggled recently, but in no way should the previous five and a half months of amazingness be thrown out the window.
…and not sure where Wyshynski sees that Quick has better numbers, because he doesn’t. Full disclosure, I haven’t watched a second of Quick this season, but I can tell you the Rangers would have been fighting just to qualify for the playoffs without Lundqvist this season. You can’t appreciate what the man means to the Rangers team unless you watch him on a gamely basis.
…while the final voting should be close, it would be a travesty if Lundqvist doesn’t win.
