80 days Gamecock fans until our team takes the field to kickoff 2010 in a game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles slated to begin at 7:30pm on ESPN on Sept. 2nd.

Not a whole lot says 80 better than 1980. Sorry current Gamecocks football player who wears the jersey #80 – DeMario Bennett. 80 is the year USC RB George Rogers won the Heisman Trophy and I know big things are expected from you at WR in the coming years but we have to showcase Big George.
South Carolina was 8-3 in 1980 but it was George that stole the spotlight. His 1,781 yards was the best in the nation and earned him a spot as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He was chosen the winner beating out Pittsburgh defensive lineman Hugh Green and Georgia running back Herschel Walker.
George will always be one of the best in USC sports history and everyone loves his attitude even to this day. Even if it is 30 years later, congrats George Rogers for being the best football player in college in 1980.
