DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay will accompany potentially 32 NBA players for a USA Basketball mini-camp in Las Vegas next week, the Sacramento Kings acknowledged in a press statement. Practices are scheduled August 11-12, followed by an August 13 friendly exhibition hosted at the Thomas & Mack Center located on the UNLV campus.
Last summer, Cousins and Gay helped the Team USA roster win the FIBA World Cup. With no tournaments this time around, coaches Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Boeheim, Tom Thibodeau and Monty Williams will focus on readying the group for 2016 Olympic play.
“With this being a summer where we do not have an official competition that we need to prepare for, this year’s mini-camp is an opportunity to continue and expand the brotherhood and camaraderie that has been built,” Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo said via press release. “It will be a celebration of all that we’ve accomplished with USA Basketball since the National Team program was formed in 2006 while also looking ahead to 2016. The mini-camp is going to be low key with light workouts, no contact, and the USA Basketball Showcase on August 13 will be a fun All-Star type game.”
