Sacramento, say goodbye to Tyreke Evans.  The former rookie of the year is taking his game to the Big Easy after the Sacramento Kings decided to pass on matching a four-year, $44-million offer from the New Orleans Pelicans.  What’s this mean for the Kings and the Pelicans?  We welcome Michael McNamara of Bourbon Street Shots, the TrueHoop Network’s New Orleans affiliate, on this 100th episode of the Cowbell Kingdom Podcast.

Greivis Vasquez, who the Kings will get from the Pelicans in exchange for Evans, averaged a career-high nine assists per game and finished with a 44.9 percent assist percentage.  How did Vasquez become one of the NBA’s top passers last season?  McNamara offers this analysis.

I would say the vast majority of his assists were coming off the pick-and-roll and just a pocket pass or a kick out to a shooter, usually Roger Mason or Ryan Anderson.  What you will almost never see is, first of all, an isolation that results in him getting by the guy in front of him and making the defense collapse or a cross-court pass.  He really doesn’t have that in his repertoire   Basically whatever side of the court Vasquez is on, his options are limited to that side of the court, which isn’t a horrible thing.  At times, it keeps the turnovers down.  But as a head coach, you have very limited options with Vasquez, but he is gonna make the right pass more often than not.  He’s just he’s really limited in the type of dynamic plays he can make.  He’ll make the simple plays, I wouldn’t expect many dynamic plays.
