Following a crazy two days leading up to yesterday’s NBA trade deadline, Sam Amick of USA Today and Jason Ross of CBS Sports 1140 come on today’s show to break down all the action. In the final part of the program, James Ham and Jonathan Santiago debate the pros and cons of the blockbuster trade that sent Thomas Robinson to Houston.
Excerpts
In the aftermath of the Robinson deal, Amick sees Kings fans as collateral damage.
Not to be overly dramatic, but like the blood of this stuff – the Kings fans are the ones who suffered through last season in order to get the No. 5 pick. And then you turn around and say ‘Well, hey Patterson, he’s gonna be nice’. You have an entire season where your only reward for the entire season was that No. 5 pick and then you turn around and cut some salary, you got some cash and you try to sell it (as a basketball move) – I’m just not buying it.
After a long trip east, Ross, who is coming off the bench for the venerable Gary Gerould on Kings radio the next two days, fills us in on the vibe of the team following their flight to Atlanta.
Certainly a unique time to be with the team flying after they traded the longest tenured King in (Francisco Garcia) and then their top pick in Thomas Robinson along with (Tyler) Honeycutt. But yeah, just a little strange. I don’t know if the players were following their Twitter accounts or whatever trying to get anybody’s information before they landed, but it was definitely a strange flight.
