Cowboys’ Lines Do the Mauling in 28-14 Win

Week5HiltonCatch

The Cowboys entered the game at 3-1 and advanced to 4-1 with a dominating victory over the Cincinatti Bengals. The 28-14 score does not reflect how impressive or how dominating this win actually was.

The talk leading up to the game was that this would be Dak Prescott’s biggest test. Dak passed the test with flying colors. The Cowboys offensive line mauled the Bengals defensive line and made them meow like little pussy cats by the half.

Let’s take a look at the stat line:

Dak Prescott 18/24 for 227 yards; 1TD and 1 rushing TD

Ezekiel Elliott 15 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDs

Terrance Williams 5 catches for 70 yards

Cole Beasley had another TD

Defense had 4 sacks

There is some excitement in the air right now. The Cowboys Super Bowl odds continue to improve with each week. They opened the season 25-1 odds, and I assume these odds will be updated tomorrow.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but this team really does look like the 2014 squad. I wrote about how the Aikman Efficiency ratings are on par with the 2014 season and that arc is still on target.

Here are my takes on the victory:

  • Morris Claiborne, let’s get it baby! He looks like another player this year. I am impressed. He had two very nice plays where he tracked the ball and batted it down. Lot of football to go, but if he keeps it up, he’ll be in the pro bowl.
  • Demarcus Lawrence made his 1st appearance of the season and he had an impact with some hurries. As expected, he didn’t start or play many snaps, but he contributed nicely.
  • The Cowboys had a multi-sack game and look like they are beginning to gel. The addition of Ryan Davis is starting to payoff as well. Had a beautiful sack that was scratched due to a BS call by the refs. Nice motor by Davis.
  • Dak Prescott has yet to throw a pick, and he is getting in a groove now. Prescott has 3 rushing TDs on the year.
  • Tyron Smith had a good game in his return from injury.
  • Zack Martin mauled whomever was in front of him. Geno Atkins did not have a single tackle registered. Impressive.
  • Ezekiel Elliott is exciting and that is why you take him #4 overall. He has transformed and kept the offense rolling with Dez Bryant out of the lineup.
  • Terrell McClain and Maliek Collins continue to collapse the pocket from the middle and we’re starting to see that combo payoff
  • Jason Garrett is now 2-0 against the Bengals

The Cowboys will return to the scene of the crime next week at Green Bay, and to me, this will be their biggest test of the year. I am looking forward to seeing what this team does on the road against a formidable opponent in hostile territory.
