Coyotes Douse Flames

Dave Tippett got his 500th win as a head coach, but it was not without some struggles. 500 wins is not a small feat, only 22 other head coaches have reached that milestone. For Tippett’s achievement, Vermette awarded him the famous belt.

“Players win games, coaches don’t win games,” Tippett told reporters about reaching the milestone. “I’ve been real fortunate to work with some great players and be around a long time.”

The Coyotes struggled to keep puck possession and stay out of the box. It always becomes a struggle to play a man down. The Coyotes had a man in the box seven times, three of which were Murphy. The Flames powerplay is ranked 29th in the league or this could have been a bigger detriment. Luckily, they were only able to capitalize on one powerplay.

The Coyotes had a lot of opportunities, but it just didn’t click. When they had the puck, the passes were too hard or not hard enough to reach the intended target. They Coyotes were always in the wrong spot for rebounds. They were a step away or facing the wrong direction.

OEL also reached a milestone last night, getting his 19th game winning goal in the last minute of overtime. He now leads all defensemen with game-winning goals and has tied Teppo Numminen for the franchise record for game-winning goals as a defenseman.

The Coyotes were not consistent last night. They played well for about half of each period. The Coyotes will need to step up their game tonight. The Senators will be a bit harder of a team than Calgary. Don’t forget… tonight’s matchup starts at 8 pm. You can find me at the Tim Hortons before the game starts!
